Japanese Maple Tree Attributes:

Acer palmatum dissectum 'Threadleaf Japanese Maple'
Also known as the Laceleaf or Cutleaf Japanese Maple, these “thread” leaf forms
of Japanese Maple have the most finely divided leaves in the family. These are a wide-spreading, round-headed form which wants to branch to the ground with its
weeping tendency. Their texture, form and seasonal changes are outstanding, as
is the winter-exposed branch structure as the tree approaches maturity. Grafted Japanese Maples can reach up to 10-12 foot.

The maples are best grown in USDA Zones 5-8, with protection from afternoon sun in the hotter areas. Soil should be kept evenly moist, yet be well drained and prefers a slightly acidic soil.

We have over 70 types of Japanese Maples available so if you know specifically what you are looking for let us know. Our trees are high quality grafted as to ensure they arrive to you in the best possible condition.

Maple trees include a broad spectrum of types, sizes, shapes and foliage. They are evergreen or deciduous, shrubby or lofty, with deeply lobed or finely cut leaves. All types have two-winged seeds and are grown over most of the United States. Only excessive heat, dryness or winter cold prevents them from thriving. Water deeply so roots grow down. Insufficient watering will cause leaf scorch. Red, purple, variegated or fancy-leaved varieties need partial shade for best color. You can prune them in the fall and are easy to transplant while dormant.

Japanese Maples are one of the most beautiful and versatile of all the plants that can be used in landscapes. The variety of colors, textures and shapes of the leaves is almost limitless, not to mention the intense spring and fall colors that are associated with most varieties. The variety of sizes, shapes and branching structures available makes it possible to plant a Japanese Maple in almost any garden or landscape situation. To date, almost 300 named cultivars have been introduced. Some dwarf varieties grow only 3' tall and wide, while others can grow to 30' or more. Some have a slender and upright habit, while others can become broad, billowing or have a weeping habit. Despite their delicate and fragile appearance, these trees are actually quite adaptable, durable and long-lived. They are also surprisingly easy to maintain and have almost no insect or disease problems to deal with. All Japanese Maples share the same cultural requirements. A site with average rich, moist soil that drains well is all that they need to thrive. Most green-leaf forms will tolerate full sun, but benefit from a partially shaded location, especially where they are shaded from the hot noon-day or afternoon sun. Most red-leaf and variegated forms prefer a location with full sun, which will intensify their rich leaf colors both in summer and fall.

Japanese maples do best if are planted in the ground but are excellent for container growing as well inside or out in a pot or wooden box and are stunning when placed at eye level. Trees in this thread leaf form can significantly increase ones property value and are quite stunning to look at to say the least.
